“Eye Would Slide 4 U”.
That could be a new tune from the singer/icon Prince after watching the king of clay do his thing in Paris.
His purple majesty showed up on Monday to sit courtside as French Open defending champion Rafael Nadal took on Serbian Dusan Lajovic in a fourth round match. If you want to call it that. Nadal overwhelmed poor Lajovic playing for the first time in his career on Court Philippe Chatrier. At one stage, Nadal almost had the elusive “Golden Set”.
Nadal won 6-1, 6-2, 6-1. But the real winner today was Mr. Prince Rogers Nelson.
Prince observed proceedings below him while keeping a tight grip onto a silver scepter.
Yes, a silver scepter.
Prince was in town for a few days to hold a few of his rather non-surprising, surprise concerts that he’s been holding in various cities over the last year. No word yet if he left the scepter behind to help anoint this year’s men’s champion over the weekend.
Nadal will next play David Ferrer in the quarterfinals.
