Sunday Final Previews – Stosur v. Pennetta & Roddick v. JMDP

So the finals for the L.A. Women’s Tourney and the Legg Mason Men’s Event are set. In L.A., Sam Stosur continued her good summer by defeating Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-2. Flavia Pennetta ended the run of Maria Sharapova by winning 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Sharapova served quite a few double faults so looks like her serve is still a work in progress.

I like Stosur in the final to take her first WTA Singles Event.

For the men, Andy Roddick served the hard serving and suprisingly deft drop shots of big man John Isner. Roddick lost the first set tiebreak, then Isner got tired and went away in the second set 6-2. The final set was back and forth until Roddick finally broke at 6-5 and went on to serve it out 7-5.

Roddick will face last year’s winner Juan Martin Del Potro who survived a long hot match against Fernando Gonazalez 7-6, 6-3.

Who will win? The only other time they played was last year in L.A. when JMDP won against a somewhat injured and lackluster Roddick. I think the quick courts favor Roddick here to take his fourth Legg Mason title.
